Funeral Expenses for Neil Provost JR.

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Nichole Provost and I am writing on behalf of my brother, Neil Provost, and the Provost family.

I am heartbroken to announce that Neil passed away early on Saturday morning. He leaves his daughter Trinity, his father Neil Provost Sr., his sisters Nichole and Krystal and his brother Nicholas.

Neil’s death is an unexpected tragedy. The Provost family did not expect to bury a 34 year old father, who loved life and had so much left to give to the world. An avid race car driver, he dedicated his life to his passion, and had a talent that many believed would have led him to a successful racing career.

I now want to share Neil’s story, in hopes that this will shed some light on the crisis our country is currently facing, and help people to better understand the chains of events that lead to so many lives being destroyed.

On January 1st, 2009, when everyone was celebrating ringing in the New Year, Neil was fighting for his life in a hospital bed. Brutally stabbed while trying to protect his friend from being attacked during an altercation, he was pierced multiple times in the chest and stomach.  He suffered complications, including blood clots and infections in his leg, which caused him permanent damage and ended his racing career.

This singular event changed the course of Neil’s life. For the next eight months Neil fought to repair his body. It was an incredibly difficult and long recovery process, lessened by the pain management medication given to him by the doctors. Eight months of medication created a dependency that he struggled to overcome. Neil recognized his struggle and he and his family made efforts to keep him healthy.

Fast forward to present day, Neil who had been to rehab and was sober, tore his ACL when he tripped over a log at a family barbecue. Doctors were informed of his addiction issues and were instructed not to give him pain medication. However, he was ultimately taken to a different hospital for surgery, the message regarding medication was never relayed, and he was put back on the medicine that caused him so much struggle all those years before. Two weeks later, Neil passed away from an overdose.

It is important to us as Neil’s loved ones to be open about his life, because we recognize the impulse to feel antipathy towards those battling addiction. However, if there’s anything we have learned from this experience, it’s that forming these presumptions is akin to looking at one speck of sand and believing it’s an entire desert.

To add to the pain of losing our loved one, we do not have the financial means to give Neil a proper burial. We are asking for your help. Anything you are able to donate to this cause is very much appreciated. If it so happens that we are given more than what is absolutely needed, we will donate all proceeds to addiction research and treatment. Words of thanks can do nothing to express the deep appreciation and gratitude we feel towards our friends, family, and the all the anonymous angels in the world for helping us say goodbye to the funny, generous, hard working man we knew as father, son, brother and friend.

Neil Provost, we hope to give your death meaning, and we hope, through our continued efforts, your story can save lives.
