From the many voices of the community of Nome, where Peggy spent most of her life, Peggy was described as a warm and welcoming heart, caring, loving, funny, a contagious laugh, strong, and a one-of-a-kind person. Peggy was quick to help a friend and family in need at no expense of time or money.
Peggy Sherman was born in Nome, Alaska where she grew up. She spent time living with her parents and siblings in Cape Nome, Alaska. She graduated from Nome-Beltz Jr./Sr. High school in 1981 and attended Evergreen State College in Washington State. Peggy moved back to Nome where she met and found the love of her life and soulmate, Robert Luce. Rob and Peggy started a family together, and her children quickly became the pride of her life. Peggy and Rob tied the knot at the Lutheran Church in Nome, Alaska on September 17, 1994.
Peggy worked at the Office of Children Services for many years.
Peggy was crafty, loved to do crafts with her children, road trips to the country in the surrounding Nome areas, and especially loved spending time out at her cabin on the coast of Cape Nome.
Peggy quickly became the “Sports Mom”, attending her children’s sporting activities, celebrating wins, losses and supporting every one of her children’s endeavors. Peggy also adopted the role of mom to so many of her children’s friends and teammates, and never hesitated to be there for anyone when needed.
She loved to spend summer nights at camp in Cape Nome and bring her children Berry Picking. Peggy loved to crank up KNOM Casey Kasem, buy snacks for the road and spend warm sunny days out in the country.
Peggy can also be described as light-hearted, and quick to prank and joke around with family and friends. She was never a dull time, she was always there for a shoulder to cry on, and supportive of many people that came into her life.
Peggy’s health quickly deteriorated entering her 40’s, but it never stopped her from being warm-hearted, cheerful, or loving any less than she was. She conquered many health challenges to witness her family grow to the 15 grandchildren, and loving each and everyone more than life itself.
As of lately, Peggy loved to spend time with her family. She loved to get together, plan a BBQ, bake for her children and grand-children and her husband Rob.
