Funeral expenses for my father, Ban Sak
Donation protected
On October 27, 2021, Ban Sak passed away peacefully at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, California. He passed away due to several strokes at the hospital. He left this world listening to his favorite Cambodian artist, Sinn Sisasmouth. He left this world physically but is remembered by his wife, Nem Uk, and his three children, Na Chheang, Sambo Sak, and Scott Sak.
We are currently raising money to raise funeral expenses. Base on multiple calls, the cheapest is $10,000. We would love to pay for more if people wish to continue to donate the minimum. We want him to have the nice burial since he did not get a chance to live the best life.
I have written his story below.
Ban Sak was born May 10, 1958 in Kampong Cham, Cambodia. At an early age before he was a teenager he was abandoned by his parents who was gambling one day. Some elder folks saw him and took him in as his grandson. Ban suffered severe post traumatic stress disorder during the genocide in Cambodia. He later fell in love with Nem Uk in the Thai refugee camp and had a daughter which helped them get green cards to America. They got sponsored in Phoenix, Arizona where his first son Sambo Sak was born in 1988. Later, in 1992, his final child , Scott Sak, was a born in Long Beach, CA.
Ban lived a tough life with his ptsd. He picked up smoking which almost took his life. He later fell into alcohol. All this lead him to having high blood pressure, diabetes, hypertension, and then several strokes.
Though Ban lived a challenging life, he found gardening to be a stress reliever and healing activity in his life. Ban has grown sugarcane, bananas, thai chilis, mint, watermelon, and lemongrass. Gardening calmed him down was a way for him to learn how to love his family and people.
A message Ban has to the world is, "Even in darkness we can find the light as long as we find tools to heal our broken spirit."
Thank you,
Sambo
