Friday, April 16th, was just another night for Ron and Michele. Around 8 o'clock that night Ron heard a thud from upstairs. Not even a few seconds later he heard another thud and went to check on Michele. Little did any of us know, this would be the start of a long and whirlwind three days.
After finding Michele on the floor after she had fallen twice, due to excruciating pain and numbness in her left leg, Ron urged Michele to go to the hospital. Upon arriving at Reading Hospital, Ron was forced to wait outside and not allowed to accompany her to the Emergency Room. Michele sat in Reading Hospital's Emergency room hallway (not even in a room) for 6 hours before being seen by a physician. All while Ron sat helpless in the parking lot and Michele alone in a hallway.
Ron was finally contacted by hospital staff that he could come in. After reuniting with Michele after 6 hours, he was told that she had been tested positive for COVID-19 but had yet to be seen about the numbness and pain in her left leg. Finally, after being seen by a physician, they were told that Michele had a huge blood clot in her left leg that required surgery immediately. During this surgery, they attempted to save her leg by placing a stent in hopes that this would restore blood flow. Unfortunately, this surgery did not prove to be successful.
Saturday, April 17th, the left leg had to be amputated due to the failed stent. Ron was unable to see her, due to being on the COVID floor, so they talked on the phone. During this time, Ron was informed that the blood clots she was experiencing were due to her testing positive for COVID-19. Michele made her last call to Ron, but he had finally fallen asleep after being awake for more than 36 hours straight. She left a voicemail stating that she loved him and shortly after this phone call, Michele went into surgery to get her leg amputated. She was placed on life support, never waking up after her surgery.
Sunday, April 18th, Ron was informed when he woke up that Michele was put on life support and wasn’t doing that well, she would require more surgery’s but was too weak. Her other leg was going to be amputated next.
Monday, April 19th, Ron’s son, Jason, had driven Ron to see Michele for the first time since she was admitted on Saturday. While Ron was inside with Michele, Jason was making calls to Michele’s family members. Ron and Jason had left so Ron could go back home, as 2 hours went by, Michele had gotten worse.
Once Ron got back to the hospital, he was informed Michele was not going to make it through the night. Ron had called his family, and Michele’s family to come to say their final goodbyes. Her sons, daughter, and siblings came from as far as Philadelphia.
On Monday evening, at 8 pm, Michele joined her beloved dog Scoop, her loving parents, her brother Tom, and God up in heaven.
From Friday night to Monday Night, her blood had thickened because of COVID-19, creating blood clots all over. She was aware of her leg getting amputated, but never awoke after surgery. Monday night, with family surrounding, Michele passed away.
Her funeral is being held Friday, April 30th, at Ott’s Funeral Home in Boyertown, PA tentatively at 3:30 pm. The funds on the GoFundMe are going towards funeral expenses, as it is an unexpected and sudden passing. Any extra money will be donated to Michele’s favorite charity, Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, NY. In lieu of flowers, we respectfully request donations to be made in her honor to her favorite charity.
