Our sweet grandma in Mexico was 93 years old and had always been the heart of our family. She was recently diagnosed with fluid in her lung and underwent a procedure that ultimately did not work out.
Within a week, she was diagnosed with colon cancer and her health began to decline even more. On Friday, September 19 at approximately 7:15 pm, my beautiful grandma left this world.
My grandma raised 12 children, and from them came many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She has always given her love, strength, and care to our family, and now it is our turn to care for her in the same way.
My aunt lovingly devoted her entire life to caring for her, which kept her from being able to work. Most of the responsibility has fallen on my mom, who has worked tirelessly to provide for our family here in the U.S. while also supporting her mom and sister in Mexico. Despite her own challenges, she has always made sure they were cared for.
Having had our grandma with us at this age was a privilege we never took for granted. We want to ensure she receives the funeral service she deserves and is surrounded by as much love as possible.

Mi nombre es Gaby Pérez. Soy una artista, educadora y activista de Chicago. Normalmente utilizo mi arte para recaudar fondos y devolverle a mi comunidad, pero hoy recurro a mi comunidad en busca de apoyo para algo muy cercano a mi corazón.
Nuestra querida abuelita en México tenía 93 años y siempre fue el corazón de nuestra familia. Recientemente le diagnosticaron líquido en el pulmón y se sometió a un procedimiento que, lamentablemente, no funcionó.
En el transcurso de una semana, le diagnosticaron cáncer de colon y su salud comenzó a deteriorarse aún más. El viernes 19 de septiembre, aproximadamente a las 7:15 pm, nuestra hermosa abuelita dejó este mundo.
Mi abuelita crió a 12 hijos, y de ellos vinieron muchos nietos y bisnietos. Siempre nos dio su amor, fortaleza y cuidados a nuestra familia, y ahora nos toca a nosotros cuidarla de la misma manera.
Mi tía dedicó con amor toda su vida a cuidarla, lo que le ha impedido poder trabajar. La mayor parte de la responsabilidad ha recaído en mi mamá, quien ha trabajado incansablemente para mantener a nuestra familia aquí en los Estados Unidos y al mismo tiempo apoyar a su mamá y a su hermana en México. A pesar de sus propios desafíos, siempre se aseguró de que estuvieran bien cuidadas.
Haber tenido a nuestra abuelita con nosotros a esta edad fue un privilegio que nunca dimos por sentado.
Queremos asegurarnos de que reciba el servicio fúnebre que merece y que esté rodeada de tanto amor como sea posible.
