Dear Friends and Family:
Kevin Porter was my middle born son and he was 40 years old. He had the best heart in the world and would do anything for you if he could. He was also very spiritual and loved God. He was very athletic all of his life. He touched a lot of people's lives and his family and we loved him so very much! He was a construction worker by trade and his father Ken Porter taught him most of what he knew in this line of work.
About a month ago, nobody had heard from Kevin....no texts, no Facebook posts (which really set off an alarm to me) no phone calls and as his mother, I knew something was not right because he was always very consistent about keeping in contact with me. My son Kris filed a missing person's report with the Akron Police Department which gave us some relief that he would be found. Kevin's cousin Angela also helped in trying to locate Kevin by placing fliers around the downtown Akron area where he worked and lived stating to contact her if anyone had heard or had seen anything of Kevin recently.
With great sadness, I was told yesterday, February 27th that Kevin's body was found frozen in someone's yard close to downtown Akron. I do not know yet how long ago he passed away nor do I know the cause of death yet as I am waiting to get test results back from the coroner. Last time I spoke to Kevin was on January 17th, 2019. Our hearts are broken! Nobody should ever have to lose a child! I do not know yet why he just was laying frozen on the ground. I cry every time I think about him being alone and passing this tragically, but I do know for a fact he is in heaven and happy and free of life's tribulations as he was a christian and loved the Lord!
Kevin did not have a life insurance policy so we are trying to come up with the funds to give him just a simple funeral service at Newcomer Funeral Home in Akron. Kevin will be cremated, but I feel we all should be able to pay our last respects to Kevin at the funeral home. I do know there will probably be hundreds of people that attend as he was loved! I will need the funds for his service within a week and would be so appreciative of anything you could afford to donate. Autopsy is being performed and after the results from the autopsy, his body will be released to Newcomer Funeral Home. As his mother, I will be in charge of final expenses. Feel free to contact me for any questions that you may have. There will be no showing of his body (as I said before) because he will be cremated and I will be sure to post his obituary notice soon.
Thank you all so very much for helping Kevin to be able to have a decent funeral. We appreciate whatever you can do to help us. God Bless and thank you for all of your prayers.
Sincerely,
Vicki Blazick (mom), Mark Blazick (stepfather), Kris Porter (brother), LeeAnn Porter (sister in law), Keith Porter (brother), Mary Greenwell (sister in law), Ken Porter (father), Kayla Porter (daughter), Krisstian Porter (son), Taisha Jones (daughter).
