Our hearts are broken as we share the news that 17 year old John Lee passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 26th. He collapsed while attending an out of state basketball camp and doctors were unable to save him. His family and friends are devastated.

John was born on April 21, 2000 and immediately wrapped his mom, Angelina Gibbs Essuman, Nana, Auntie Angel and Auntie Angela around his fingers and never let go. He was a great role model to his younger cousins; teaching them the ways of the world, including how to get out of trouble with a grin. He held a special place in the hearts of many and touched a lot of lives.

John was an easy-going, friendly kid and was looking forward to starting his senior year of high school in just a few weeks. He did well in school and was an honor student. He loved sports and chose to focus on basketball, hoping to play in college next year. He was a great dancer and had some pretty awesome moves. He also loved to fish; all he ever wanted to do was go fishing. He truly was an incredible young man with a contagious personality; making friends everywhere he went.

Funeral arrangements are pending, but will be held in Dallas, TX in the coming days.

I have known John since he was a baby and am assisting his Auntie Angela in creating this page with Angelina’s permission. All funds raised will go directly to help Angelina and her family with funeral expenses and any other related expenses as they deal with this tragic loss. All amounts are welcome and appreciated.
