On May 5th, my best friend Lynette lost her husband Doug unexpectedly. I have been struggling to put into words the past few days how to explain how amazing he was... until I saw his niece Brianna's post on Facebook and decided it described him perfectly...
"We lost my Uncle Doug last week. Saying that will never seem real to me. For those of you lucky enough to have met him, you know exactly what I mean when I say he was truly a one of a kind, amazing man to have in your life. He made you feel like apart of my family instantly, giving you crap and poking fun at you from the start. Not many 23 year old girls can say that they had an incredible relationship with their uncle, but because of uncle Doug, I’ll always be able to say that. He would fix/put together anything I ever needed, check in on me when he heard I was going through anything, and get just as excited as me about anything I was happy about. Uncle Doug was not only my uncle, but my friend. I’ll miss your random texts in the middle of the week, you always asking me how I got Derek after a night with our friends, rolling our eyes together at family drama, your shirtless barefoot self on the porch in Hampton, and your bellowing voice that completes our family get togethers. I promise I’ll always have Derek and Jenna’s back, be their support system and I’ll make sure they’re okay. I’ll always have a hole in my heart without you, our family will never be the same. Rest in the sweetest peace Uncle Doug. "
