Everyone says it, but our mom really was the best. Dawn "wing lady" Bower was an incredible woman who touched so many lives. She was fierce and independent yet incredibly loving and compassionate at the very same time. She truly was a gift to every life that she touched. She lit up countless faces with bright smiles with her sense of humor and uncanny sense of sarcasm. Unfortunately, after a long battle with numerous illnesses and complications with a long hospital/nursing home stay, she lost the battle on May 4th. This was a devastating hit to her three children and her granddaughter as well as the community as a whole.
Unfortunately, her children were unprepared for the amount of money needed to properly put her to rest and avoid her going to a potters field, and ensuring that her final wishes were filled. The expenses, including her plot in St. Raymond's Cemetery and the small closed services (due to the COVID-19 epidemic, and limited to only her children whom are living together) are a heavy burden to bare on top of her loss.
Dawn was a dedicated servant of the NYPD for over 30 years and known for her "legendary" spicy home made hot wings. She was assigned to Central Bookings on the Grand Concourse where she spent her entire career. Her children have begun to hear the stories about the lives she touched and that has brought them some solace. They would greatly appreciate any and all help anyone is willing and able to provide. Our love and appreciation goes out to anyone who's lives were touched by Dawn as she was truly one of the good ones. We are thankful for everyone taking the time to share in our story and are greatly appreciative to everyone who found themselves on our page.
This Go Fund Me campaign is run directly by her children.
