It is with great sadness that the family of Alan Ruiz announces his passing. Alan was rushed to the hospital on the morning of December 5th, he was taken to the hospital after experiencing shortness of breath when he arrived at the hospital he was tested for COVID, and the test came back positive. He was then given oxygen and antibiotics to help with his symptoms, but his oxygen level was not improving. After one week of treatment and continuous attempts to stabilize him the medical staff at the Horizon Hospital made the decision to transfer him to William Beaumont Army Medical Center in hopes to provide better care. Medical staff at WBAMC tried everything in their hands to get him to breathe adequately on his own, but his lung function had been severely impaired. On December 13th he was put on a ventilator, while on the ventilator Alan had to be sedated and paralyzed to help the ventilator work properly. There were two attempts made to wake him while he was on the ventilator but when he would wake up his oxygen level would go down again. On December 21st his doctors told us his lungs were failing which would then cause the rest of his organs to start failing. Alan’s family and loved ones never lost faith, we continued to pray for him to recover but the next day we received more bad news we were informed his kidney function had failed he was then given dialysis treatment for one hour. When the dialysis treatment was done his blood pressure dropped and his heart stopped, the medical staff were able to get his heart beating again but at 10:30 pm that night his oxygen level dropped from 80 to 40 to 0, his heart rate then started to drop as well going from 75 to 50 to 25 and then to 0.
On December 22, 2021, Alan Ruiz passed away at the age of 30 years he was a loving father, husband, son, sibling, and friend. Everyone who met him will always remember him as a loving, caring and fantastic man. At the age of 17 he went to war to fight terrorism; he was a decorated war veteran. Alan is survived by his two beautiful children Eli and Catalina Ruiz, his wife Jacqueline whom he loved deeply, his parents Xochitl and Gustavo, and four siblings.
