Funeral Expenses for Adrian Martinez

UPDATE: Thank you so much to everyone who has donated. Adrian was laid to rest in the same grave as his mother on May 1st, 2024. Adrian's widow Monserrat is in the process of applying for Legal Permanent Resident status, which requires paying significant fees to USCIS. Adrian's father remains around $7,000 in debt associated with funeral and medical expenses as well as reduced work hours. Given these costs, we have updated the target of this fundraiser to 15,000. The Martinez family is grateful for all of your support.

ORIGINAL POST: On the night of 4/16/2024, Adrian Martinez passed away after a short and fierce battle with cancer. He was 21 years old.

Adrian Martinez was born in Woodland, CA in 2003. Born into a migrant farm worker family, Adrian spent most of his life split between the Madison Migrant Center in Yolo County, CA and his family's hometown of Fresnillo, Zacatecas in Mexico. As a boy and teenager, Adrian excelled in many things, particularly soccer, and at 10 years old was instrumental in the Madison team winning the 2013 "migrant cup" tournament among the different migrant camps of the region. Adrian graduated Esparto High School in the Class of 2020 and joined his father Eduardo and older brother Cesar in working as a farm worker in Yolo County.

From a young age, Adrian had to take on outsized responsibilities as his mother Margarita was diagnosed with cancer in 2009. Tragically, Adrian would also be diagnosed with testicular cancer shortly after his 18th birthday. Detected late, the cancer had already spread by the time Adrian began intensive treatment. Nevertheless, Adrian put up a strong fight and achieved remission multiple times.

In November of 2023, Adrian's mother Margarita passed away after a 15 year battle with cancer. In December 0f 2023, Adrian's cancer was declared in remission. In February of 2024, Adrian and his family returned to Mexico. In March, Adrian married his long distance girlfriend Monserrat in a civil ceremony while in Fresnillo. Unfortunately, upon Adrian's return to the United States, the doctors found his cancer had metastasized beyond control.

On April 16th, Adrian joined his mother Margarita. Adrian is survived by his wife Monserrat, father Eduardo, and older brother Cesar.

This fundraiser is to help the Martinez family, still in debt from paying for Margarita Martinez' funeral not even 6 months ago, pay for the expenses of Adrian's funeral. Any additional funds will be used to supplement Eduardo and Cesar's low income as agricultural workers.
