Funeral Expenses for Abimael, Isauro, Herminio

On February 20, 2022, Abimael Jiménez (16), Isauro Martínez , Herminio Pérez (28) were murdered in Phoenix, Arizona.

 

Abimael Jiménez (16), Isauro Martínez, Herminio Pérez (28), belonging to the Ayuujk/Mixe community of Santo Domingo Tepuxtepec, Oaxaca. They and thousands of other people are forced to migrate to the United States because the Mexican Government continues to fail and guarantee a dignified and livable life in the country. Now, the Tepuxtepec community and families have lost a community member, son, brother, father, and friend. But in addition to that, they have faced the bureaucratic barriers of two countries (Mexico and the United States) where the economic issue has been a factor in guaranteeing the return of the bodies to Tepuxtepec.

 

Although in the eyes of people who do not belong to the Ayuujk community, the main expense is in the funeral home and “repatriation” of the bodies, the families are concerned about the expenses that they will incur once Abimael, Isauro, and Herminio arrive in Tepuxtepec. This is because, in the Mixe culture, the death of a person is accompanied by a series of rituals that, in addition to being exhausting, mean an economic expense.

 

In solidarity, we ask for a donation to cover the expenses of "repatriation" and rituals that the three families must complete so that ET NÄXWINY (mother nature) welcomes them for their rest. And also so that families can experience their grief without the stress of economic violence that this situation adds to their lives.

El pasado 20 de febrero de 2022 fueron asesinados en Phoenix, Arizona, Abimael Jiménez (16), Isauro Martínez , Herminio Pérez (28), pertenecientes a la comunidad Ayuujk/Mixe de Santo Domingo Tepuxtepec, Oaxaca. Ellos así como miles de otras personas fueron forzados a migrar hacia Estados Unidos pues el Estado mexicano sigue sin garantizar una vida digna y vivible en el país. Ahora, la comunidad de Tepuxtepec y las familias han perdido a un comunero, hijo, hermano, papá, y amigo. Pero además de eso, se han afrontado a las barreras burocráticas de dos países (México y Estados Unidos) donde la cuestión económica ha sido factor para garantizar el regreso de los cuerpos a Tepuxtepec.

 

Si bien ante el ojo de las personas que no pertenecen a la comunidad Ayuujk el gasto principal está en la funeraria y “repatriación” de los cuerpos, las familias están preocupadas por los gastos que correrán una vez Abimael, Isauro, Herminio lleguen a Tepuxtepec. Esto, debido a que en la cultura Mixe la muerte de una persona está acompañada de una serie de rituales que además de agotador, significan un gasto económico.

 

Apelamos a su solidaridad para cubrir los gastos de “repatriación” y de rituales que las tres familias deben completar para que ET NÄXWINY (madre naturaleza) los acoja para su descanso. Y también para que las familias puedan vivir su duelo sin el estrés de la violencia económica que esta situación les añade a sus vidas.
