Our mother, Soeun Sous has lost the battle to cancer.
We found the cancer 3 years ago. Our family scrambled and united to fight back. Though it was tough, our family endured the struggles, the pains, and the hardships of fighting cancer. There were countless nights of fear and frustrations. It wasn't easy, but we never gave up. We stuck together and beat the first round of cancer. In winning the battle, our mother was given more time. Doctors said a second wave was very likely. We never thought "very likely" would be 2 years.
Within those 2 years, our mother lived a happy life. She continued to do what she loved to do the most, cooking. And if you've ever had the chance to eat at Phnom Phenn restaurant in china town Oakland, CA you've had our mothers cooking. She also used those 2 years to spend time with family; 2 more birthdays, 2 more holidays., 2 more of every special events that our family was able to cherish. She lived fully in those two years. Yet, 2 years isn't enough. I don't think any amount of time is enough.
At the beginning of 2021, our mother was given the news that the second wave of cancer was too aggressive and that going into chemo and radiation will only do more harm than good. With the support of her family, she decided to spend her energy fighting the cancer amongst family than to drain her energy in chemo and radiation. Again, our family sought resources and answers from different channels and sources. We, and our mother fought hard. And no matter how hard we fought, we realized that the cancer was just too strong. Yet we never gave up.
Our mother lost the battle with cancer. Though pain and suffering was a big factor in the fight, she passed peacefully. She was surrounded by her children as she took her final breath in her sleep.
She touched many peoples lives and will be loved and missed. We will love her forever, and will continue to miss her to the end.
Our family has had a tremendous outpour of support, and we cannot thank you all enough. This funding will go towards our mother's funeral costs and blessings. No amount is too small. Thank you all.
