On March 1, 2023, God saw fit to call Derrick Lemont King home to rest. His death was unexpected and leaves a community, a family, a wife, and a mother in excruciating pain as we grieve such a tremendous loss. He was the most incredible father I have ever witnessed in action and logged more constructive hours with his kids than I ever knew was possible of a father. He loved to build things for the kids and show them the true joy of "Lego time". He was a brilliant mason and worked on many historical places in the city of New Orleans including the school of Holy Cross. He sought to improve things with his hands and he hoped one day to pass on the love and joy he had for building to his children. Derrick was a story of an African American man who had survived tremendous adversity to not only get his GED but also go on to get a college degree and start a successful business of his own.
