Funeral costs for Wayne Sandy-Mununjali & Butchulla Songman

Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Wayne Sandy who was also a loved grandfather, son, brother, uncle and nephew.

Wayne was a family man, who loved his family very much. He was always a generous soul who would give you the shirt off his own back.

Wayne lived strong in his Indigenous culture creating the very first Mununjali/Yugambeh dance troupe in 1993-1997 and also had integral contributions to Butchulla song & dance in 2004-2025. Wayne believed that culture was there to be shared with his people and he was the type of person that would encourage and build others up. Wayne was a humble man who always respected his elders. His legacy will live on through the cultural knowledge, songs and dances he passed down through the generations.

Wayne was the best story teller and lived a very full life, having many stories from his travels in life, especially his days as a well respected radio announcer at the inception of Triple A Murri Radio.

On 20th December 2025, Dad was unexpectedly flown from Hervey Bay to the Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital for emergency surgery caused by advanced cirrhosis. He remained in the ICU in critical condition while we waited and prayed he'd make it through.

On Christmas Day the doctors delivered the news that Dad wasn’t going to make it. The very next day, close family gave him a private farewell ceremony as all life support was removed allowing Dad to join our ancestors in the Dreamtime when he was ready.

Dad passed away peacefully on the 28 Dec 25 at 1:31pm.

As we come to terms with Wayne's passing, we are faced with the difficult task of arranging his final farewell. We want to give him the dignified and heartfelt send-off he deserves, but unfortunately, the financial burden of funeral expenses is overwhelming for our family during this already challenging time.

Thank you for your compassion and generosity. Funds raised will go towards his funeral service, burial etc. Together, we can give Wayne the farewell he deserves.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Marliza (Wayne's eldest daughter) & extended Dawson/Sandy family
