Funeral costs for Charles Davenport

UPDATE: My family and I have been blown away by the kindness and generosity you have all shown us. It means the world to us, and it has made this devastating time a bit easier. But the funeral and travel expenses for family members flying in on short notice have rapidly added up.

My family was devastated on March 28 by the sudden passing of my brother Charles Davenport at 49.

 

Charles was an avid fan of all things Ohio sports, be it the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds or Cincinnati Bengals. The biggest question in his life was whether Joey Votto or Joe Burrow was the greatest "Joe" in human history.

 

After this past year, he was leaning Burrow, and he will be laid to rest in the No. 9 jersey he cherished so much.

 

Charles was one of the kindest souls you will ever meet. A truly gentle giant. It's often said that people will give the shirt off their back to a stranger. Charles was that guy, Family meant everything to him, and he was absolutely crushed when our youngest brother Philip passed away at 32 in 2010.

 

It is my family's great hope that we can lay Charles to rest next to Philip, as he would like nothing more than to be close to the brother he loved so much.

 

My family is also rallying as best we can to deal financially with this unexpected tragedy, but Charles was on a fixed income, had no life insurance and there are considerable expenses to contend with, including a number of family members (including my 81-year-old mother, who isn't in good health) flying from Arizona to Ohio to say their goodbyes.

 

We are asking for anyone who can to please help us navigate this waking nightmare. Any assistance you can provide will be appreciated more than words can say.

 

Please pray for my mother Carolyn. And my sister Margaret. And for all the family and friends of Charles who are reeling after he was taken from us.
