Funeral, Burial and Memorial for Carl Sanders, Jr.

Donation protected

Hi everyone,

Earlier this week many of us suffered the tragic loss of one of the world’s most beautiful souls. Our precious Carl Sanders, Jr. was a son,  a brother, a nephew, a friend and so much more. I am not sure what is harder, the thought of what happened or those of that never will.

Carl touched the lives of countless individuals. Shaw graduating classes of 2000 through 2004, his fellow Army brothers, his fellow graduating class of the University of South Alabama, as well as all of the people that were lucky to have crossed paths with him after are better because of the time we were blessed to have with him. His selflessness and love toward his fellow human being is what made him unique. Well, that and his hunting and fishing game.

Carl dedicated his life not just to his country, but the service of all others in need. This love even reached our Iraqi brothers and sisters through his part in Operation Iraqi Freedom.  He was one of the kindest people I have had the honor of knowing. He had a heart of gold and a gorgeous million dollar smile.

In such a dark time, I find comfort knowing that Carl was immediately received into the kingdom of heaven; happy, healthy and whole. I am grateful to know that his mother and father were there to welcome him with open arms. It is here, friends, that you too may find some peace. Let’s lean on one another, on our faiths and on the memories of Carl’s life and legacy.

It is with permission of the family that I ask, those of you that can, to help in raising money to assist with burial and funeral expenses for them. As you can imagine, this is an unexpected journey for them to set off on; just months after laying Momma Carla to rest. Anything that we can do to help offset some of the costs for them would be of great gesture. Consider this a gift to them on behalf of our late and great friend. Let’s show them that our love and support is constant and unwavering. Let’s help lay him to rest in the cemetery and in the way that he wanted and so deserves.

In Carl’s own words, “ ...some bonds are never broken. Stars fall in Alabama but all must return to heaven eventually.” We may not have foreseen, understand or agree with what was written in the stars for Carl but we know he shines now and forever. His light lives on in each of us. He brilliantly fought so many battles and ultimately gave all. Now as he rests, we march on for him.

Hooah, soldier. We love and miss you.

— Until we meet again.
