Funeral arrangements for Kembe Thomas Stevens

Message from Kembe’s Family

Kembe Thomas Stevens, our dearly beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend suddenly departed from us on March 13th, 2019. We never for once thought we would associate the word death with such an extraordinary human being at such a young age.

Kembe impacted the lives of so many which has been reflected in the tributes paid to him so far. We find it extremely difficult to add to those tributes as they are all, in so many ways, symptomatic of who he really was. Kembe was not only my son, but my father, my mother, my brother, and on so many occasions he was also my carer. He was my everything.

Kembe gave so much. He was extremely hard working, and always put his family first. In John 13 vs 15,  Jesus said "I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you." Kembe answered this call because he poured love to whoever he met and showed concern for the needy just like Jesus asked. Kembe followed his dreams and achieved most of his goals. Not only was he passionate about his country, he impacted so many lives especially those in Sierra Leone. Kembe was a great role model to the youth and inspired many. Interacting with people irrespective of age and status was his greatest asset. His cooking was legendary and his laugh contagious.

Kembe was a gentle giant, and a visionary. He was a great orator, and an even better listener who always kept to his promise. He was selfless in his pursuit of helping others, and would always say "duty first, self second", "den pipul ya dae suffer, leh we help dem, leh we give them hope". He was an aspiring politician and parliamentarian who recruited a strong group of supporters/believers, and inspired hope amongst Sierra Leone’s youth. Despite a failed bid, he continued with the community engagement work he started all alone 5 years ago prior.

Prior to his untimely death, Kembe was involved in the following activities:

Building a school and library in Kent, Sierra Leone

Building a canoe boat to cross people to Banana Island from Kent

Helping with school fees and incentives for 50 children in the Funkia area

Quarterly donations of rice, palm oil, water, and other necessities in Constituency 110 - Freetown Peninsula

Donations towards building and cleaning of facilities for fishing communities around the Freetown Peninsula

Despite the incredible loss that his family and loved ones feel at this time, we must press on and continue with the work Kembe started. His undeniable love for Sierra Leone made the decision of his final resting place an easy one. His untimely death has put heavy financial demands on his family, in addition to the immeasurable grief that we are dealing with at this time. On behalf of Kembe’s family, we have setup this GoFundMe campaign to humbly ask for donations to help with:

Flying Kembe’s remains to Freetown

Paying for memorial and funeral arrangements costs

Support services for Kembe’s immediate family

Creation of The Kembe Stevens Foundation

All funds received through this Go Fund Me will go directly to Kembe’s mother and sister, who will allocate funds accordingly. For those who prefer to make donations via another platform such as Paypal, Venmo, or CashApp you can contact the family privately.

For those in Sierra Leone wanting to donate, you can do so at the Family house at 28 Pademba Road, (between Bathurst Street and Liverpool Street), Freetown. We thank you for all your kindness and support during this difficult time.

We salute God’s own son as he is ushered into his final resting place. We take courage in the fact that God has gained a wonderful angel who is now looking over us, wishing we could join him at a place full of peace, and free from the earth’s labours.

It is impossible to forget someone who gave us so much to remember. As long as we live Kembe will always be remembered with fondness and love. Sleep well in the arms of heaven's angels.
