Alexandra Vasallo Henry

Born in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico Alexandra arrived to Manhattan’s El Barrio in 1955
She was a warm and giving woman who most especially enjoyed working with children and the elderly, during her career as a medical assistant and phlebotomist.
Preservation of Puerto Rican culture and tradition was very important to Alexandra.
She not only instilled this with her two children. She was also a cultural icon in El Barrio.
Alexandra was the artistic creator and director of Las Pleneras Del Barrio formed in 1978. Performances and teaching dance workshops included Madison Square Garden, The Apollo, Columbia University and The Museum Of Natural History.
She was also very politically active in El Barrio. Alexandra worked tirelessly during many campaigns. Alexandra encouraged East Harlem residents to empower the community by voting and via political activism.
Alexandra was an inspirational role model who overcame adversity and obstacles early in her life.

Funeral Service Date is in process because we are trying hard to come up with the funds!! Our goal is to be able to help her loving family with the exact funds by Sunday January 28th
