Funeral and Memorial for Juliet Gutierrez Cruz

Dearest Friends and Family,

It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to you today to inform you that our beloved grandmother is now in heaven. She passed on  August 12,  2021 peacefully in her bed at home with her son, grandson, and granddaughter at her side holding her hands. She has become an angel gracing us with her smile and continued love after a long journey with us on Earth. She will be greatly missed. Her heart of gold and kind soul has touched many people and will be remembered always for the lovely, down-to-earth person she was.

Meet Juliet Gutierrez Cruz,  an Austin native and one of the best nurse's we know. She devoted her life to caring for others and did so with love and joy in her heart. She earned a reputation for being a kind, gentle, caring, and one of the best nurses by doctors, nurses, staff, patients, patient's relatives and friends.

She was not only a role model for her granddaughter, but also inspired  her to follow in her footsteps as a nurse. She graduated from the "old" Brackenridge Hospital (1st hospital, red brick building) School of Nursing. She began her nursing career at Holy Cross Catholic Hospital where she worked for a few years. She worked at Brackenridge Hospital (2nd hospital) for 25 years. Followed by  working at Arnold's Nursing Home for 15 years and LaLa Convalescent Center for 15 years. Her dedication spilled over outside of work as shown by her willingness to help family and friends in need. Her generous spirit touched many people's lives with the loving care she provided.

She was a member of St. Julia's Catholic Church  since the 1950's and was involved in volunteering with breakfast preparation and clean-up in the dining hall until covid hit in 2020.  She was active her whole life until her stroke, digressed over a week's time until her death, 4 months short for her 93rd birthday.  She was an identical twin, our dear great-aunt Julia passed in March 2021.

She enjoyed helping her family with household chores, helping with yard work, taking walks and sitting outside, going to the movies, shopping at H-E-B and Wal-mart, dining out at Luby's Cafeteria, Sirloin Stockade, Double Dave's Pizza Works, Jason's Deli, Souper Salad, Paw Paw's Catfish House in Bastrop and Maxine's Cafe & Bakery. She enjoyed drinking coffee and cokes and eating ice cream, cheesecake, and popcorn.

We are reaching out during this difficult time for your thoughts and prayers for her to wish her well on her journey in the afterlife and for our family.

We would like to provide for her a respectable burial and service to honor and rejoice in her memory, any help that you are able to provide from the heart to make this happen would be deeply and sincerely appreciated.

Thank you very much for your attention, your supporting prayers, and from-the-heart donations.

With love and gratitude,
The Cruz Family
