OBITUARY:
Mark Steven Spillman, 55, of Independence, Mo., died in his sleep on Sept. 30, 2021, in Roeland Park, Kan. He was a lifelong resident of Independence.
He was born Aug. 1, 1966, to W.B. “Pat” Spillman and the late Jeweldean (Beal) Spillman of Independence.
He is survived by his son, Dakota Spillman of Kansas City, Mo.; father Pat Spillman and wife Judi of Independence; brother Ward "Barry" Spillman and wife Kerry of Blue Springs, Mo. He was preceded in death by his mother and his nephew, Warren Spillman.
Mark graduated from Truman High in 1984. After graduation, he began a career installing floor coverings. He remained in the industry for most of his life. He took pride in his work and was an artisan with carpet.
Mark was a friend of many. He had a way of making people feel comfortable. He enjoyed music, and his hobby was playing keyboard in a local rock band.
He was generous to a fault. Whenever a friend, old or young, had a problem they couldn’t solve, he was there. Over the years, he helped and even took in dozens of people who were temporarily homeless and gave them shelter until they got back on their feet.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Community of Christ Congregation at 500 NE Woods Chapel Rd., Lee’s Summit, Mo. Visitation at 1 p.m. Service begins at 2.
His remains will be interred alongside his mother in the mausoleum at Mound Grove Cemetery in Independence.
You may also contribute to the “Bridge of Hope” fund in care of Community of Christ, 1001 W. Walnut, Independence, Mo. 64051. Other cards and remembrances may be sent to 500 NE Woods Chapel Rd., Lee’s Summit, Mo., 64064, in care of Pat Spillman.
