Funeral Expenses for John D’Souza
Donation protected
It is with a sad heart that the D’Souza family announces the passing of John D’Souza. John passed unexpectedly on Sunday evening, October 16, 2022 in the INOVA Fairfax Emergency Department.
John was aware that his time with us was limited, but fought tooth and nail for his life, he was an incredibly strong and willful man. His passing comes just days after his daughter Julia’s wedding. His 2022 resolution was to be able to attend her ceremony despite the grave news that medically there was no longer anything his physicians could do to sustain his life. He achieved his goal and was able to attend the ceremony as he’d wished though unable to walk his daughter down the aisle. His last wish was to be surrounded by family in his final days, which he was. The sounds of laughter and cheers filled his home throughout his final days with us. And we are forever grateful to have been able to give this to him.
As some may already know, John suffered from stage 5 kidney failure as a result of his 2017 heart pump implantation, and did not qualify for the kidney or heart transplant he needed. Over the past four years he has suffered a great deal of medical complications and was provided extensive 24 hour nursing care by his children. While working full time each of us have played a critical role in our fathers care to include daily dressing changes for his wounds, transportation to dialysis three to four times per week, transportation to and from medical appointments, and the administration of his medications. We also supported our father by tending to needs around his house, preparing his meals, paying for bills, his medical equipment, and trying to provide him the best quality of life possible all the while.
We appreciate all of the kind words and support from our neighbors, family, and friends, but reach out to you today to ask for help to pay for expenses that are falling to the responsibility of his children. Over the last four years we have all exhausted our own finances to ensure our father received the best care possible and to provide him with the equipment and services he required. Any support you can provide whether that be through donations here or directly to the family, or even by sharing this page with others, will be received with the upmost gratitude.
My name is Jennifer D’Souza, John’s eldest daughter, and I am creating this GoFundMe on behalf of my brothers, sisters, and myself as we struggle to maneuver through this difficult time. As the the executor of any and all donations made to support the family, funds will be used primarily to pay for funeral and burial expenses. Excess donations may be used for monthly bills such as the mortgage, medical and utility bills if available.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for all of your support.
