funeral and a plot for beloved mother and nanny
Donation protected
Hello. My name is Chris, and I have recently lost my beloved nanny to terminal cancer. She fought it for so long, she was a very stubborn and strong woman to have hanged on for way longer than any of us thought. She was a truly wonderful woman, a very selfless person. She always put others above herself; even while she was unwell she always thought of her family first. She was very respectful, and always made the best coffee walnut cakes and apple crumbles which we will miss forever. She loved to knit, and always knitted something for her husband of 48 years, in the colours of his football club even though she absolutely hated football. That is how good her heart was. She loved making other people happy and smile.
My family is all deaf so we have barriers to getting support, including monetary support to go towards the cost of the entire funeral and memorial, not to mention a plot for us to come and sit down to talk to her after the funeral. We want to buy a plot so we can plant a tree with some of her ashes so that some of her is with her family on Earth forever.
The life insurance policy she has only covers a third of the costs. We need help to raise money for the rest of the costs. Generally, as a family, we hate to ask for money, but we are stuck between a hard place and a rock right now. My grandfather is on pensions and it is barely enough to cover his bills, never mind his own food. My aunt is struggling as she has five children (I know right, what a crazy woman!) to look after. My mother is disabled and can only part-time volunteer for a deaf community group. I don't work, although I volunteer for a deaf community group. Put together we just simply cannot afford the full costs, and my nanny would have hated any of us going into debt. So really, we would really really appreciate any and all help to give her the best send-off she deserves, and give us all some true closure.
Edit: Thank you so much for all the donations so far, it is all really appreciated. We are all quite emotional and grateful for your help in this case. In the case that the donations go over the target, it will ALL go to the charity St Christopher's Hospice which is a charity hospice, providing some of the best palliative care in London. They rely heavily on donations so we would like to give them something to say thank you for making my nan as comfortable as possible in her end of life, as well as providing bereavement support for the family after the passing.
