Hello Everyone. First and foremost, thanks for your consideration. Everyone knew my mother, Diana Toledo, as someone with a golden heart! Full of life, always positive! And that, she was. However, behind the scenes, she had an extremely difficult life. She battled mental illness all her life, and has had medical illness for the 2nd half of her life. Between dealing with high blood pressure, diabetes type 2, atrial fibrillation, heart arrhythmia, asthma, and as of last year Congestive Heart Failure, she slowly lost her battle. Back in 2016 mom fell into a horrible depression that just totally took over her mental state and made her mental illness worse. After temporary stays at a pyschiatric hospital and a group home, she ultimately ended up in, what I thought would be semi-permanently, a nursing home since 2017. Well, to say the least, after all the admissions in and out of the hospitals throughout the past three years, this last one on June 20th was her biggest fight of all. She was diagnosed with Hepatorenal Syndrome, which is caused from failure of the liver and kidneys due to liver Cirrhosis. This has left me and my two brothers devastated, as well as family and close friends! She was in the hospital for 11 days, and on the 8th day, asked to be put on the ventilator because she just couldn't fight to breathe any longer. Worst day of my life let me tell you. She lasted three more days after that, and only with the assist of numerous intravenous medications to keep her heart rate, sodium, and blood pressure rates at normal levels. (On top of the ventilator doing the breathing for her). Its just totally heartbreaking. My mom didn't speak much about death, since she was such a positive person, but she did tell me that when she passes, she wants to be buried with her mom in Puerto Rico. And that's the goal! The goal is to hold a memorial service for her here in New Jersey, cremate her afterwards, and then take her to Puerto Rico. Now, to do that we need your help. Sheesh, why is it so expensive to lie in peace!? The funeral and memorial services are close to $8,000. Then, to dig up the grave site of my grandmother is an additional $800. I have to get myself and my brothers to and from Puerto Rico, and cover all those expenses. Then there's all the administrative costs and paperwork. I am asking for your help to reach a goal of $10,000. Never did I ever think I'd have to do one of these, since I thought I'd be way older with much more savings on me but this just happened so suddenly. I've pretty much been the matriarch of the four of us for as long as I can remember, I've always found a way....but this one is different. My middle brother Matt works and will help with what he can, but he just had a baby and things are tight. My youngest brother Chris has a small mental illness himself, and doesn't work so I fully support him. It's just a lot on me right now and any penny helps. Again, thank you for taking the time to read this. I am overwhelmed with sadness and happiness at the same time at seeing how many of you loved my mother and her passing has touched you all. Thank you a million times!!
