Human remains discovered Sunday in a creek just north of the Trenton city limits in Grundy County have been officially identified as Steven Johnson, a missing man from Trenton. The identification was confirmed by the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Grundy County Sheriff, Rodney Herring, informed KTTN that it is unknown how long Johnson had been in the location where he was discovered, however, Johnson was recovered in the same clothing he was last seen wearing.
Johnson was reported missing around Thanksgiving of 2024. His body was recovered from a creek area north of Moberly Park by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, the Grundy County Coroner, the Trenton Police Department, and Daviess County Sheriff Larry Adams.
Authorities said the body was initially found by mushroom hunters in the area.
An autopsy was conducted, but no cause of death was determined. The investigation remains ongoing.
Hello, my name is Alyssa Gibson, I am Steven Johnson's younger sister. Steven went missing on Black Friday in November of 2024 and was found deceased a couple of days ago on April 13, 2025. We are asking for any help on raising Steven's funeral expenses. We appreciate any help that is given.
Steven may have had a difficult past and mental health issues but he was the type to give the shirt off of his back.
Steven's Service will be at Resthaven Mortuary in Trenton, Missouri on Wednesday April 23, 2025 @ 11AM. Thank you. Contributions can also be mailed or dropped off at Slater funeral home care of Steven Johnson memorial fund Trenton, Missouri
