Our little brother has died, tragically, striking us with the first painful death my small family has ever experienced. Eduardo was a passenger in a car accident that left him in critical condition––these were the four weeks of my life––until he had to be terminally extubated. We are a first-generation immigrant family from Mexico; we migrated to California when Eduardo was six years old; our mother raised three sons and one daughter. Eduardo loved our sister and mom deeply. We never expected this, of course, and now I'm crying as I type this.
