JULY - Saving The Animals Of Oasi Leonardo

Donation protected

Hi everyone!

I'm Alessandra, and I live in Tuscany, Italy.

I used to work at a no-kill farm, Oasi Leonardo, which houses goats, sheep, cows, pigs and horses, as a stable person.

The farm ran out of funds last year, and I started looking after the animals for free as a favour a few months ago so they wouldn't have to sell them or send them to slaughter.

I worked every day since last August, never taking a day off so the animals could be tended to.

However, the farm's project has now been officially closed, the owner can't provide for them anymore and I need to find a new safe home for all the animals!

Due to severe personal problems the owner was absent for two and a half months, and I was left alone to pay for the sustainment of over 400 animals and had to physically look after them almost 24/7 because was the only one left here.

I had to move up here out of the blue!

Regional vet services threatened to take them away and send them all to slaughter, but I managed to fight them off long enough to find a solution!

I quickly contacted the italian net of shelters to start a path to find a way to save the animals: they have accepted to help me find new homes for the animals, where they can keep living their lives to the natural end of their days!

The net of sanctuaries can't physically take the animals because they're too many and they're already over capacity, so we're trying to survive week by week for now, relying on donations and by selling some old farm tools.

Any donation would be a great help: we have already sent over a hundred animals between goats and sheep to new safe homes for life (we're trying to organize weekly transports, followed by volunteers and by me to check on the wellbeing of the animals).

Thanks to your help, I'm finding the funds and the strength to go on.

To keep realistic track of the funds I would need to feed the animals of the farm, pay for vet visits & medications and adoption beaurocracy every month, I'm setting monthly goals until the end of this huge "adventure" I have embarked on and that was made possible thanks to the people who have helped me so far and have followed my efforts and shared them with me!

We have already found a safe home for life for more than one hundred sheep&goats, and we're looking to start working on the cows' adoptions!

I'm sharing with you a list of expenses I have to face each month and will update as the number of animals gets smaller!

- Hay: 6 shipments per month for 58 cows > 6600€ per month;

- Feed bags: 8.80€ per feed bag, for a total of about 14 feed bags per day > about 120€ per day > 3600€ per month;

- Neutering of bulls & bucks, vet visits, anaesthetics, antibiotics, other meds including parasite prevention meds; I'll post the med bills as I buy them!

- Light & water bills to keep the stables' water system running: about 400€ each month;

Every week I gain is more time I get to work towards a happy ending for all of them!

 THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
