Funeral Funds for Gerald Fine

Gerry Fine passed away, unexpectedly, on December 4th, 2016, surrounded by his loved ones at the bedside.
On November 5th, Gerry was driving his mother down to Florida from New York when he had an unexpected seizure while passing through Virginia. He was put on life support and sent to the nearest hospital, where the cause of the seizure was identified: A brain tumor.
Gerry was able to get off of life support and make it back to Florida where he then followed up with a neurologist. This tumor was pressing on parts of the brain that caused Gerry’s speech to be impaired, he could no longer form certain sentences or find the words that he was looking for. Because of the location of the tumor and associated risks, the neurologist did not want to biopsy the tumor unless absolutely necessary. Instead, a follow-up MRI would be done in about 2 weeks to check on the size of the tumor.
November 30th, Gerry had the follow-up MRI of his brain, which showed that the tumor had grown significantly in just 3 weeks. He was directly admitted to the hospital where a biopsy was taken of the tumor. It came back cancerous – and family was informed that chemo and radiation would only be for comfort, that it would not save his life.
Gerry made it out of the ICU and to the step-down unit at the hospital, and was looking forward to going home and being with his family. On December 3rd at the hospital, Gerry had a massive stroke and became unresponsive. CT scans showed that he would never come off of life support with the damage from the stroke. Family made the decision to make him comfortable.
In just a 4 week time span, the Fine family’s lives have been completely turned upside down. Gerry’s wife, Barbara, now has to figure out funeral arrangements on top of supporting herself and paying the bills on a now one person salary. Unfortunately, Gerry’s life insurance policy had recently lapsed while waiting for disability. Gerry was an amazing husband and father of two boys and would do anything for his family and friends. Anyone who knows him could attest to such a statement.
Rest in peace, Gerry, we all love and miss you so much.
