Funds to support Greg & Sandra Potts

Dear family, friends and colleagues of Greg & Sandra Potts

I am a co-worker of Sandra and a friend to Greg, I wanted to set up this gofund me page to assist Sandra & Greg on the tremendously long road ahead that they have.  I will give you some background as to what has occurred over the last week:

Greg was at work on March 13th and was rushed to the hospital by a co-worker, from there he was rushed to RUH by ambulance.  He had a CT and MRI where they found he had a stroke from a lesion somewhere on the bottom, left side at the back of his head.  He was sent home on Friday with the all clear as the lesion was healing and he had next to no symptoms, there was no indication that there was another stroke looming that occurred early Saturday morning.  He was once again rushed to RUH by ambulance and monitored closely in emergency.  This time he showed signs of the stroke but everything seemed to be going in the right direction.  Sunday night, Sandra was called by staff that they needed to rush him into surgery because he was getting confused.  His brain was swelling and they needed to alleviate the pressure by draining the fluid with a shunt.  Was admitted to ICU after the 1st surgery, Monday following the 1st surgery he was still a little responsive - laughed, answered questions, but was very groggy.

Things went from bad to worse - got word in the afternoon (Monday) that he had to go in for another major surgery, the brain continued to swell and was putting severe pressure on the brain stem.  So, he went for the 2nd surgery to have part of his skull removed so that the brain could swell with no barrier.  Greg made it through surgery and is recovering in ICU but now has a VERY long road ahead of him.  Their first priority is to make sure that he does not hemorrhage, once he gets through that, then he has to start rehabilitation.

So the stroke did affect his mobility, coordination and potentially his speech.  Greg is still Greg, in terms of memory and personality.  The part of the brain that was affected was strictly mobility.  So he has a lot of rehabilitation ahead of him.  The neurosurgeon advised the family that he will be in the hospital for a very long time.

How long it will take Greg to recover is completely uncertain.  We do know that he will have a long road of rehabilitation at Saskatoon City Hospital, it will not be an outpatient basis, Greg will be there until he is able to come home.  As we all know, Greg is self-employed so there will be no income as he recuperates.

Many of you have had Greg do some work for you, so you know how hard he works, he has done work in our office!  The pride that he shows in his workmanship is evident.  He is meticulous, and keeps a tidy workspace.

The money you are donating will offset the income lost by Greg, as well, fingers-crossed it doesn't come to this but maybe do some renovations to their house if Greg is unable to climb stairs upon his return.  And to establish a fund to care for Greg as he finds the strength to once again go back to work!  NOTE:  If you are local to Shell Lake, you can also donate at Innovation Credit Union, there is a trust account set up for Sandra & Greg.  If not, please feel free to donate on this page.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for any money you can donate.

Please share this with your community of friends, or even people Greg has done work for in the past and on social media.  Please don't hold it against Greg that he is a Chicago Blackhawks fan, as this Montreal Canadiens fan has let that go!!!

Sincerely,

Sheri Prosser Dykstra

 With gratitude from Greg's family.
