May 30 left 5:30 to kamloops (no vet open in lillooet.) The Vet gave us 3 options. 1 -she could do it but might not work. N she said they are not equipped to do major surgery if something went wrong. N cost would be $7,000 + 2nd option send Sam to Boundary Bay Specialist in Surrey BC. cost $8000.-10,000
Or the 3rd. option was to euthanize Sam. :( n That was not an option.
We were in shock n i cried n cried. We chose to bring Sam to surrey.
Sam's vet bill for the Phases veterinary, in Kamloops was
$403.
I drove home n packed n brought Sam to see Derek b4 I left. I also picked up my cuz Dawn, who did not hesitate to come with me during this hard time.
Dawn Angus n I got to Boundary Bay Veterinary in Surrey at
May 31, at 3:30 am they told us what they had to do, so, they would need 75% down before doing the surgery for Sam. So that was $8,000. We had to put down b4 surgery. We didn't have pet insurance because we had bad experience with Trupanion.
We scrapped n drained all our savings n truck/car payment. Our bank cards were put on overdraft n credit cards are maxed out. I went over limit on one bank so it wouldn't let me use it. I was $900. Short and they would not budge till they had full $8,000. Thank goodness Dawn was there n she paid the rest of the $900 with no hesitation.
May 31 Sam's first surgery
At 9 am they were able to push the stones back into Sam's bladder, as it was several small stones that blocked his pee way.
Second surgery was 3pm
Dawn n I went to boston bar to sleep for awhile. N for doctor to call. Doctor called around 5 pm and surgery was a success. Stones and lab tests are sent off to see why Sam keeps getting stones. As, Sam has had 2 other surgeries to remove stones befoe
This was the worst his stines have gotten. I decided to go home because they said Sam would be in there for a few days n could not afford to get a room. We were able to do phone calls with Sam everyday to talk to Sam n see how he was doing
June 2 we were able to go pick up Sam n have to pay the rest of his bill off.
Which was $3000.
Total for vet in surrey $11,225.00
This expense does not include
the travel, meals or accommodations.
P.S. Thank you very very much Dawn for covering the rest or Sam's bill. Or he never would of got the surgery n we might of had to make a bad choice for Sam. Sam is still on the mend and we are doing follow up visit with the veg n specialist to figure out Sam's next steps to healing. Waiting for his lab results to come back n see what type of stones. N make his new meal plan for him n to track his urine for infections. Sam was up n about today n his meds are cut back. He is making progress.
