Funds for The Nairoshi Foundation
Donation protected
Me, Stephen, Sarah, Wendy (Mum), Viv and Helen are taking a holiday to Kenya in March (entirely funded my ourselves). During our 2 week holiday we're excited to be taking a trip to visit our dear friends at the Nairoshi Foundation. We'll be staying at their primary school Building Hope Academy for a couple of nights. We already have some activities planned with the staff and children. Stephen and I can't wait to see them again and share some stories and updates with you all.
You can read some of our blog entries about the foundation and our time there January 2020 here - https://millsingabout.wordpress.com/
For the last 3 years, with help from postal brownie sales, book sales, sponsorship for half marathons and just plain awesomeness and generosity of friends and family we have been able to raise and send £250 every month to contribute to helping the school and community survive the pandemic and keep moving forward.
A number of friends and family have been asking how they can help the school and community, what they can give to take with us etc. You are all amazing!! We have books from a local school and some friends are donating sports shirts that their children no longer want or fit into. All will be hugely appreciated - sadly we have a limit on luggage allowance!
So, here it is - the best way you can make a contribution and be assured that the money goes directly to where it needs to go. I've set this target and if we're lucky enough to reach it, it's important to us that we share exactly where the money will go....
£500 - Will cover the monthly donations for March and April - this usually contributes to teachers salaries or resources/food for the school. Last year we also paid for a first school trip for grade 6 who smashed their exams!
£250 - Will help us pay for an activity we have planned whilst we are there that'll help create memories for the children alongside a gift that the school can continue to use when we leave (more detail to follow when we are there - don't want to spoil any surprises! )
£250 - Will be set aside for the time being. I have just commenced an application to launch a formal charitable foundation which will enable us to operate as a registered charity. This opens up opportunities for funding bigger projects to help the school become sustainable and hopefully in the future fully self-funded. The fees for the set up of the foundation stands at £500 - £250 of which we will be paying ourselves.
£1000 - We will identify urgent needs/projects for the school when we are there and use the funds to progress these.
We will be posting updates and chipping away at the total with brownie and book sales as we approach March and there will be opportunities to win some postal brownies if you are in a position to make a small donation.
