J. (Dan) Heber Dews Jr 9/11/1941 – 2/15/2022
Dan Dews joined the US military in 1960 and served in the Army for over 20 years. Dan's service included three tours to Vietnam. After the service, he served as manager for Pinkerton security before working in the post office until he retired. A few years ago, he had a stroke that left him unable to speak or write his thoughts down. These impairments made it very difficult to communicate with him and manage his affairs. It wasn’t until after he passed on 2/15/2022 that we discovered that all his life insurance policies had expired. We contacted the VA services and learned that his life insurance policy had not been renewed with the VA. The veteran’s services are helping with the funeral, and Dan will receive a military funeral at the national cemetery in Montgomery. However, that assistance still leaves us owing nearly 15 thousand dollars. We are applying for survivor benefits through the VA to see if we can get more financial aid, but we may or may not get assistance. We ask for any help from friends and family to cover his funeral costs. Thank you.
