Funds for Robert Basista Jr.'s Final Farewell

Hey everyone. It is with such sadness and indescribable pain in my heart that I have to even write these words. On Monday, June 3, our father Robert (Bobby) Basista Jr. aka “Bip” or “Hunky” underwent quadruple bypass surgery on his heart at VCU Hospital. In what was supposed to be a fairly “easy” normal 5 hour procedure somehow turned into a more complicated 10 hour operation. Even tho we were confident and trusting in the medical team there, we still had our worries about the surgery being performed at all. However our father is a tank and we knew he would make it thru with no problems. We were right. The surgery was a success. Following the surgery, he was talking, telling us how great he was feeling, how clear his chest was, even making jokes and it was a great feeling knowing that he was on the road to recovery. The following morning I was awakened with terrible news from the hospital. About 4:20 the morning of Thursday, June 6, our father went into cardiac arrest and unfortunately the medical team was unable to restart his heart. He passed away that morning.

As many know, our Dad has struggled with addiction which has caused terrible financial and legal issues for him. He was not able to sustain a life insurance policy and my sister and I are forced to find the means to lay our father to rest. We also have struggles of our own and are not in a place where we are able to do that. So we are reaching out, asking for help, anything helps, to help us give our dad the funeral and/or service he so deserves. Bip wished to be cremated and his ashes scattered with our mothers. The money raised will be used to do that and have a small service with family and close friends.

He may not have been the best dad, but he was the best to us.
