Please help my sister cover the veterinary costs from the sudden loss of her beloved horse this Christmas
My sister, who lives in regional Queensland, works as a physiotherapist and gives her time to help the people and animals of her community. She is a giving, selfless person who never asks for anything for herself. That’s why I’m asking for her. She recently moved up to regional Queensland and bought property so that her horse could have a good life, and now that young horse has suddenly passed away just days after giving birth. This has left my sister in a very difficult position, with additional costs alongside a mortgage and running costs for a large property in regional Queensland, which is also suffering from drought.
On the 25th of December 2019, Christmas day, my sister’s most beloved friend, her horse Alisana Maharani (Rani for short), gave birth to a beautiful foal. That same night, Rani went off her food and became increasingly agitated. Following several visits from the vet she was rushed to the equine hospital at the University of Queensland. Vets discovered that Rani had developed a twisted intestine (Colic).
My sister considered only the needs of Rani and her new foal, without a thought for finances as Rani went in for an operation to fix the damage. All seemed well, Rani was lovingly nursing her foal and looked to be recovering. Then suddenly only 2 days after the first surgery she collapsed again. Following veterinary advice Rani underwent a second emergency procedure. Despite the best efforts of vets, they were not able to save her and she passed away during the second operation. Rani was the most beautiful, gentle and loving horse; anyone who knew Rani, was changed by her, for the better. My sister is heartbroken by her loss.
The devastation this has brought to my sister is overwhelming. Rani was her whole world and I am going to support her through this, however she now needs to find the money to pay for the costs of the two surgeries, the cremation of her beloved friend, and a surrogate mother for the baby foal that has been left behind. My sister would never ask, but she is bearing the grief of this loss and I don’t want her to have to worry about the costs when she needs to focus on helping the foal.
The costs she is expecting are:
$7000 for the first surgery
$5000 for the second surgery
$2000 for the cremation
$4000 for a surrogate mother to look after and nurse the foal
These total to around 18000 and are due over the coming months (January-March 2020).
Please help to support my sister’s heart to heal by easing the financial burden she now faces. I am trying to help as best I can with other expenses but would be forever grateful for any help you can give. I think this would also make my sister feel more connected to others who may have been through similar trauma so she doesn't feel alone.
