We just purchased this house this month and were in the process of moving in. Our previous apartment was not even half a mile up the street from the house. At some point after our last dropoff of stuff something started the fire. Our dog Nutmeg, was home alone. We came back maybe 15 minutes after our previous trip since it was the last we were going to do that night, and we returned to find the fire and our dog passed out at the backdoor. The fire was maybe a foot away from her at this point. We pulled her out but she was fully unconcious and covered in burns. We were able to get her on an oxygen mask after kind strangers came to help us carry her unconcious body across the street. The fire burned very quickly and we are so lucky to be alive.
Nutmeg is going through a lot right now, however. She has several 2nd/3rd degree burns on her body. We drove 3 hours away to Burlington to get her to an emergency vet who could take her and had an oxygen tank big enough for her. She has been in the tank since last night, and she is still having some problems breathing and is in a lot of pain. She is currently on an IV with antiobiotics and pain meds, but right now we are just waiting to hear more news about her lungs and recovery.
The vet bills are already estimated to be at $6,000 or higher. We appreciate anyone who would be able to help us out during this time. We are just so dearly hoping that our precious girl pulls through <3
