Over the past few months, the state of Matt's mental health has deteriorated significantly. He has been in and out of hospitals, on and off medications, and back and forth with clinics. Things are up and down. Sometimes not so bad but never so good.
My family does not love the idea of sharing our situation. Not just because of privacy, but also because of the confusion and nuances of it all. We don't know exactly what's wrong and we don't have a whole lot of answers yet. You ask me how my brother is doing and I'll tell you "great question". Such as many things, mental health is all grey area.
What we do know is that we could use some help. It's no secret that mental health care, in the US, is expensive. Particularly expensive when not everything can be covered by insurance or medicaid. Unfortunately, expensive enough that we are asking for help.
I know the monetary goal for this page is insanely high. It's because the expenses are, in fact, that insanely high. The clinics and hospital bills have already added up to over 7k. The long-term treatment center we're trying to get him in could be anywhere from 30 to 90k. Now picture my dad being laid off a few months back too...
