#Justice4TheGrants: Help Boy Handcuffed by Police
Donation protected
It's been two years since a 5-year-old boy at East Silver Spring Elementary School in Maryland was detained, handcuffed, threatened and berated for almost an hour. Since then, his mother has sued to hold those who harmed him accountable. I believe this family deserves justice, healing and community support.
People around the world have seen the body camera footage of this incident and those who have viewed it know that this incident was unconscionable. But the case is being fought by their own county government, which is why I am fearful that the family will receive little relief at best or have to pay out of pocket for legal expenses at worst.
Media around the U.S. and the world have reported on this incident. Everyone has been able to move on—except the victim and his family. The Grant family has been failed by their school, by their police, by their government, and so far, by the justice system. Together, we can make sure they receive support from their community.
Please make a donation to support a little boy who has been through far too much.
More Background
On January 14, 2020 a 5-year old boy at East Silver Spring Elementary School in Maryland was detained, handcuffed, threatened and berated for almost an hour. No action was taken to acknowledge the harm and wrongdoing until January 13, 2021 when the boy's mother (Ms. Grant) filed a lawsuit . Despite requests from elected officials, the media and the public, body camera footage of the incident was not released until March 26, 2021 triggering dozens of news stories .
The case is still pending , but recently many of the charges that were brought forward were dismissed. We must do what we can to support this family and make sure the family is not further harmed for seeking justice and accountability.
