Life chose me for the craziest adventure last week. As you all know, I'm just wild about cats. You’ve seen my stories or been lucky enough to meet my girlfriend Mia. Well, the past few days, when parking my car, I'd been hearing the yelping and crying of a kitten in pain behind the wall of my carport. As it persisted through parking after the gym, work, the next day's gym, the next day's work, I woke up knowing I had to intervene. A little jungle gymning and trespassing in a neighbor's backyard a block over and I found the lower half of the most adorable kitten ever, sandwiched between the back of my carport and the wall of the neighbor's backyard, her head completely stuck in a drain pipe under a pile of metal scraps.

Once I saw her, I got a few final confirming yelps and could see she was still breathing, and I knew she was still alive but barely. Luckily the universe led me to intervene just in time. I realized it was time for a real-life rescue.

I called 911—it was an emergency, after all, and stayed by her side with words of reassurance until LA’s finest and the last positive arms of the state came through and lifted her out of the tiny crevice she was sandwiched in and pried her head free from the pipe with the jaws of life. Out popped the face of an angel. The fire department put her in my hands and rode off to the next disaster, and that was that: I was now responsible for another life.

I rushed this 8-week-old baby to urgent care where the initial prognosis did not look good - her temperature and blood pressure were too low to read and she was severely anemic, covered in fleas and had maggots in her mouth. The urgent care said she needed to be transferred to a hospital for more intensive care, and after an overnight stint, I got a call that Maggie had made a miraculous recovery. I brought her home, and just like that, I have a new member of my family.

After two days of hearing this cat's screams, I knew no one else would be coming to her rescue and that it was my duty to save her. Even before I knew she would pull through, at least she wasn't going to slowly die with her head stuck in a pipe buried under a pile of trash. I did what needed to be done, but I spent a lot of money I don't have in the process. I'm starting this fundraiser to cover the costs of saving sweet Maggie's life, and I hope you will help me ease the financial burden of this experience so I can focus on giving this little girl the best life I can.

Thank you so much for your help! Cats RULE!
