Lebanon is suffering and we need your help! Amid a deadly pandemic, the citizens of Lebanon are suffering through many extraordinary crises, such as famine, a collapsing economy, an extremely high unemployment rate, dramatic inflation of the Lebanese pound, and the lack of basic necessities, such as access to clean water and continuous electricity throughout the day.
On August 4, 2020, Lebanon’s capital, Beirut, suffered 2 large explosions on the main port of Lebanon that accounts for 80% of the goods imported into the country. Along with the port, 3 hospitals were completed destroyed and 2 were damaged. Over 150 innocent people lost their lives, and over 6,000 were injured (these numbers are subjected to increase). The cause of the explosion is not yet determined; however, an investigation will take place regarding an estimated 2,750 metric tons of explosive ammonium nitrate that was stored at a warehouse on the port. The explosion destroyed homes and left approximately 300,000 people displaced, according to Beirut’s governor.
With so many people on the verge of starvation and with the majority of the population living beneath the poverty line, we have decided to create this GoFundMe page to spread awareness and to gather funds to donate to those affected in Lebanon. We will use these funds to purchase goods, such as clothes, food, diapers, shoes, blankets, etc and distribute them throughout Beirut. Please consider donating, and if you are unable to donate, please share this page with others!
I am a Lebanese citizen living in Bakersfield, California, USA and I thank you for your support during these hard times.
