Hello friends! My name is Mackenzie Riggs, and my closest friends and family know my relationship with La Clinca Santa Rosa De Lima and the town of Guaimaca, Honduras well. In February 2022, I will be returning to the clinic for a fourth medical trip to support its staff and chronic patients. I am honored to be bringing two talented friends and health professionals along, Katie DeGregorio and Rachel Johnson.
For those who do not know me, I first encountered the clinic and its staff while completing a yearlong volunteer program with CMMB in 2014, and, there are not enough words to describe how deeply my experience working in this facility changed my understanding of service, privilege, and global health care. Because many medications, diagnostic tests, and medical specialists are extremely limited in Honduras many patients suffer daily from preventable complications. I witnessed insulin shortages force diabetics to live months with glucose levels over 300 mg/dL. I also saw many patients travel hours to the clinic in search of antibiotics not available in their local facility. Though our work will be miniscule in comparison with the injustice and need that exists in this country, I truly feel that our time and effort support a sustainable and impactful healthcare mission.
This donation will pay for medications and laboratory tests for the patients of La Clinica Rosa de Lima. The clinic is a nonprofit Catholic medical facility in the town Guaimaca, Honduras. The 100% donation- based clinic is staffed by local healthcare workers that treat the poor and medically underserved of this area. Common ailments include acute bacterial infections, malaria, asthma, and numerous chronic illnesses. Because the Honduran government provides extremely limited medical care, nearly 200 citizens of Guaimaca come to the clinic every week to receive primary care.
I want to sincerely thank you for any time and treasure offered to this endeavor. A donation of any amount will not only sustain the work of a clinic that provides essential medical services but will also provide dignity to the poor and exploited people of Honduras. For the visit to be successful our group needs not only financial but also emotional and spiritual support, so I am extremely grateful for your thoughts and consideration. Please do not hesitate to email me with any questions!
