The past 2 years have been hard on everyone, and exceptionally more for those who have lost loved ones - myself included.
Over this past year my sisters and I have been trying to help support our father with all of his complex medical issues and coping with the sudden loss of his wife, our mom.
Unfortunately, in the chaos of all of this, my beloved dog Kato somehow found and ingested a roll of gauze that we honestly don’t even know how he got a hold of.
On Saturday Jan 22, he threw up his breakfast. Initially I didn’t sense anything off as occasionally this may occur for many reasons. However later that day I came home to several more piles of throw up and Kato behaving strangely.
I stayed up with him all night as he periodically wretched with nothing coming out. I figured I’d call the vet in the morning as I wasn’t sure what was happening. Then I noticed he couldn’t even keep water down and overall he continued to decline quickly.
I called my vets office at 7:30am but because they aren’t normally open on Sunday’s I bring him in under emergency costs. The call to the vet alone is $65, and walking into the vet office is approx. an automatic $450. He wasn’t himself and even began shaking. It was clear he was very sick.
Due to his symptoms Kato required immediate anti-nausea meds, pain meds, X-rays and hospitalization for the night while we tried to figure out what was happening. The X-rays weren’t clear enough to identify a foreign object, but because he declined more even with meds, fluids and IV during his night stay at the vets, they gave him an ultrasound in the morning. Between the x-rays, blood work (showing increase white blood cells - indicative of a foreign body), and the ultrasound showing a potential linear object, it’s was enough evidence to determine Kato needed immediate surgery.
Without hesitation I gave approval for the surgery. Once he was in recovery I got the phone call that informed me of what they found in his intestines, they had become so tightly wound, it was life saving that we got him in as soon as we did.
He’s on heavy pain meds with an incision almost as long as a 30cm ruler! Given the vets had to perform emergency surgery on such a “dirty” area, Kato isn’t out of the woods for another 24-48h as we cross our fingers there’s no complications or infection from surgery.
Given all things stated above and all the meds included with his recovery time, I’m asking for anyone willing or able to donate to help cover his emergency surgery costs. Don’t get me wrong, I’d do it again in a heartbeat to save him, but if you can, I’d really appreciate the help.
Thank you for any donations, shares, and positive vibes for my big little guy.
If anyone would like to directly donate to his vet bill you can please contact the Thunder Bay veterinary Hospital at [phone redacted]. I believe you can just use my name or tell them you’re calling to contribute to Kato‘s bill. You can also send an e-transfer to myself at [email redacted] - pls feel free to msg me for confirmation. PayPal:
Again thank you for any donations, shares, or positive thoughts. We definitely need all of them.
I haven’t received the bill or quote past his X-rays and blood work, but I will share/update once I do. Thank you again
