Funds for John and Laura Lee O’Donnell
Donation protected
Hi! I am Laura Lee’s sister and John’s sister-in-law, Lisanne, and I’ve been charged with letting friends, loved ones, and family in on what’s happening in their world.
In mid-November of 2018, John and Laura Lee received some terrible news. John was diagnosed with AL Amyloidosis, a blood disorder like a cancer. This is a disease which attacks the organs and causes them, over time, to shut down.
While not curable, a stem cell transplant can provide a significant amount of time - something we so desperately want! Chemo started within 4 days of his diagnosis, and we started the research to find the best place for John to receive the transplant.
John and Laura Lee went to New York City and Memorial Sloan Kettering on March 28, of this year for the transplant, and has experienced just about everything that could go wrong. John is still in MSK.
We are starting this fund for Laura Lee and John to offer support as they continue through John’s treatment and return home. John is on long term disability now and their financial needs from this journey are significant.
Your donations will help allow Laura Lee to continue to travel every other weekend to be with John, provide NY housing during John’s rehab (Rehab hospitals won’t take a patient with this disease and requirements), and allow them the freedom to ward off some of the medical bills.
So many people have already reached out to ask how to help. A financial contribution is one of the best and most effective ways to support Laura Lee and John.
As John nears the time he will come home, we will put out a list on Caring Bridge of specific tasks they may need help on, like transportation to the hospital for tests and treatment, meals, etc. If you are able at that time and are nearby, please visit the Caring Bridge Calendar for John and sign up to help!
We have heard forever that we can all succeed if we join forces and fight together. As Coretta Scott King said, “The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.”
We are grateful for your membership in our community and any effort you can give to making this an easier journey for John and Laura Lee.
