Help the Hungarian Circus Dog get back on her speckled feet!

Greta’s History
Greta stole the hearts of her mom, Adrienne, dad, Shannon, and Weimaraner brother, Roman, when they first found her at the Marion County Humane Society in West Virginia four years ago. It was clear that she had lived her first year in a cage as she had very little muscle tone and did not know how to respond to being in the woods. But she quickly adjusted to being loved and spoiled, earning the nickname Hungarian Circus Dog due to her ability to make anyone and everyone laugh. Greta is now 5 years old and has been a very active dog- hiking in Pittsburgh, PA's many parks, hunting for chipmunks with her brother, Roman, and enjoying family vacations.

Greta’s Injury
Two weeks ago, Greta very suddenly slowed down and started screaming out in pain. After a several ER visits, overnight stays, various pain medications, steroids, an X-ray, and an MRI performed under anesthesia, it was discovered that a disc in Greta's spine had ruptured, shooting disc material into her spinal cord. The material was compressing her spine causing her motor functions to decline rapidly, ultimately cutting off the use of her hind legs.

Greta had surgery on her spine this past Monday. The surgery went well. The neurologist was able to clean the ruptured material out of Greta’s spinal canal. But she remains in the hospital as her bruised spinal cord slowly heals. The neurologist is hopeful that with a slow and calm recovery, Greta will fully regain the function of her back legs and go on to live a happy life. Adrienne, Shannon, and Roman are committed to bringing Greta home and changing their lifestyle to make certain Greta remains the center of their lives, their Hungarian Circus Dog.

The Costs
The costs of Great’s care thus far have exceeded $10,000.
$750 per overnight hospital stay for a total of $4,500 so far
$3,030 for the MRI performed under general anesthesia
$4,000 for the surgery

How a you Can Help
Greta has a long road of recovery ahead of her but she is a tough little girl and we know she’ll give all the energy she can to returning to the happy, active dog that she was.

We know this is a lot to ask as there are many animals (and humans!) who need help. But Greta is our everything. We are grateful to anyone who is able to donate to help with Greta’s medical costs.  Please give what you can, any donation is appreciated.
