Hello, I'm Izzie, a 23 year old Black trans woman, I freelance model, produce music, play bass and stream video games on Twitch. I'm seeking assistance with gender affirming surgeries (more on those later), recovery costs , and support surviving as Covid-19 has extremely limited my freelance and work opportunities and my home recently has become unsafe. I lost my job delivering pizza right at the beginning of the pandemic due to cut hours to fit the entire staff and being a very new employee at the time but I've been lucky enough to receive unemployment.
Things for me have been very difficult since March 2020 and I have been lucky enough to receive unemployment but it only really covers my bills every month. I barely have enough to cover my medical bills and hormone costs after all of my other living expenses. Saving money hasn't really been an option lately. I'm currently in about $800 of medical debt from my last two doctor visits, blood panels and metabolic panels. I have doctor appointments every three months. I have insurance but it doesn't cover most of the affirming care I need or any of the affirming operations I want.
Misogynoir makes things really hard and complex for me socially and dysphoria has been kicking my ass lately on top of it. Moving away from my hometown was intended to be freeing for me but since I've left I've endured more trauma. My current living situation recently became unsafe and I have been staying with a friend 40 minutes from the space I pay for every month, I will be moving in the middle of March 2021, breaking my lease agreement 5 months early because of the way my housemates have made me feel. I never thought I'd have to go through something like that in my own home and from people I thought were my friends. At this point I just want to go stay with my family for a little bit, it feels safer than where I am and I need a break from financial strain while I continue to transition. Living with my parents wouldn't be free but it would drastically reduce the amount I spend on housing and utilities every month. Part of this money will go to ensuring I have a secure safe space to live in, I'm in Los Angeles and I desperately want to go back to Chicago where my family is.
I'm asking for 30,000 dollars to help cover an orchiectomoy, and tracheal shave, all the required consultations ( which aren't covered on my insurance) required for electrolysis for facial hair, and to help with future appointments and hormone costs. The other 10,000 is my survival fund and will be used on my miscellaneous needs outside of my medical costs. I had a fundraiser floating around before but it's not being received in the way I need it to be anymore and I've been living at close to the bare minimum of my needs. Most of the money I fundraised last time was spent on my survival as I didn't anticipate losing my job when I began fundraising the last time. I've begun teaching myself web and android/ios application development with resources I was lucky enough to aquire online but it will still be a significant amount of time until that will be a viable option of income for me. I'm very grateful for any support I receive. I've seen Go Fund Me's change people's lives and I really feel like it could change mine too.
