Who this will help
Jed Frost, a.k.a. Frosty, has been recently diagnosed with ALS.
This disease is aggressive, degenerative, and fatal.
There is no cure for this disease.
Jed was misdiagnosed for years before getting his recent, accurate diagnosis. Jed's ALS is familial (it runs in the family - this is what Jed's dad died with).
Jed's ALS is presenting as Bulbar onset. This means that Jed's speech, swallowing, and respiratory function will be affected most severely. In addition, this form of ALS is more aggressive, reducing life expectancy to possibly 2 years, post diagnosis. However, ALS presents (and life expectancy varies) patient-to-patient.
This makes providing the best life and care for Jed all the more urgent.
Why I'm fundraising
Jed is in need of the following:
- IMMEDIATE need of handicapped housing, accessible by emergency services.
- talk-assistive technology and other life-enriching assistance.
- a healthcare advocate to attend appts with Jed, take notes, speak for Jed, advocate for his care, etc.
- home health aide/care.
- gas money to/from appointments.
- bucket list trips and experiences (visiting family, etc.).
- living expenses.
- treatment opportunities, including manual therapy, etc.
- experimental stem cell treatments.
