Funds to support Doug Carty

On Sunday July 10, 2022 Doug acquired a severe traumatic brain injury. While climbing down from the top of the hay pile that was stacked in his truck he slipped on a bale and fell from 10 ft+. He fell head first, with his head hitting the corner of the metal trailer that was attached to the truck. He lost consciousness for roughly 10 mins or more. He was taken to Cheshire medical center where the CT scans showed that there was bruising on the frontal lobe, a subarachnoid bleed on the parietal lobe of his brain and much swelling. Because he fell from such a high height, the blunt force to the metal corner caused his brain to whiplash, which resulted in injury to several areas. He has 11 staples over the injury and two sutures. He was taken to Lebanon where a second CT scan was done. Because the bleed did not spread within a 6 hr time frame, they felt they didn’t need to do surgery. He was sent home only to shortly return to the ER where the doctor there was upset he was ever sent home in the first place. He is currently in the ER where he will stay until they can find a bed for him on the Med Surg unit. The most recent CT scan showed the large bleed has slowed but two new hemorrhages developed in the center of his brain. He will be meeting with a neurosurgeon Thursday July 14. Following that appointment the plan will be to receive care in a neuro rehab unit pending availability. We’re not sure what his recovery journey will look like, or how long it will be. It is very overwhelming. We are no strangers to brain injuries and know there are a lot of unknowns. Each persons is so different and we’re hoping and praying for the best possible outcome. So far all we can see is his short term memory is poor along with his speech. Other than that, we don’t know much more as he has been sleeping the majority of the time. My parents own a farm and Papa is the backbone of it. We’re already feeling the effects of his absence. Please keep them in your prayers. Specifically for no complications or long term damage and for pain management. He will be out of work for this journey of healing along with my mother who will be taking as much time off as she can to care for him. At the request of many we are hoping to raise funds for medical bills, additional forms of care and treatment for Doug, additional aid on the farm and for their general finances with time out of work. They are always blessing others and I know this will bless them in this difficult time. Thank you all for your love and support.
