Just a couple of weeks ago, at Christmastime, our dear friend Anka and her son Marek lost Marek's father Wayne, suddenly and traumatically, while traveling in Poland.

What initially seemed like an acute illness escalated with shocking speed, and turned out to be an extremely aggressive, late-stage cancer. Within days, Anka and Marek's lives were turned upside down.

Wayne passed away in the hospital on January 10th, 2026, leaving Anka and Marek in deep grief - and facing significant financial strain. Wayne had no life insurance, and major hospital and burial expenses piled up quickly, all at a moment when Anka's focus should be on mourning and supporting her child through immense and shocking loss.

Those of us who know Anka know that she has always been strong and self-reliant - an amazing cinematographer who travels the world and leads film crews with grounded power and kindness. Asking for help is not easy for her. But in this moment, she needs us, her community, to show up.
