Supporting Andy Abbott and His Family

Friends and family, (Versi Bahasa Indonesia di bawa)

On 9 September 2025, Andy Abbott was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer. The cancer had spread to some lymph nodes and his lower vertebra, and with a Gleason score of 9/10, it was clear that this was an aggressive cancer requiring immediate treatment.

Andy and his wife Debbie have spent over twenty five years serving the Moskona and Isirawa people of Papua Indonesia, faithfully partnering with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Bible translation, church leader discipleship, and curriculum development. Their lives have been marked by long-term commitment, perseverance, and service—qualities that have been especially evident as Andy began chemotherapy immediately after his diagnosis.

After completing six rounds of chemotherapy by December, follow-up scans showed encouraging signs. The cancer in Andy’s lymph nodes and bones had become dormant, and the prostate tumor had reduced to about half its original size, though it still showed active cancer.

At the same time, doctors discovered something unexpected: a different cancer in one of Andy’s neck lymph nodes, unrelated to the prostate cancer. This discovery led to further biopsies, scans, and tests.

In January 2026, Andy and Debbie traveled to Singapore, initially expecting medical clearance to return home to Papua and continue their work with the Moskona community. Instead, doctors advised them to remain for further investigation. They have since been told that Andy is facing two primary cancers, and that he will need radiation treatment for both the prostate and the neck lymph node, to be done concurrently, pending insurance approval.

Andy is expected to begin radiation treatment in about a month and will need to remain in Singapore for approximately 7 weeks. This season has brought unexpected challenges—extended accommodation, travel, time away from ministry, and daily living expenses—while being far from home and separated from much of their family.

Andy and Debbie have three married children and three grandchildren, with family spread across Southern Africa, Southeast Asia, and North America. The distance has made this season particularly difficult, as they are unable to be together as much as they would wish during such a critical time.

How You Can Help

This GoFundMe has been set up to support Andy and Debbie in three meaningful ways:

Prayer — for wisdom, healing, strength, and peace as they navigate treatment and next steps

Financial support — to help cover travel, accommodation, medical-related expenses, and other practical needs during treatment and recovery

Sharing this page — helping Andy’s situation reach friends, family, and communities who may want to support but are unaware of the need

Every expression of care—whether prayer, giving, or sharing—makes a difference. Your support helps relieve financial pressure and allows Andy and Debbie to focus on healing and walking through this season with hope.

Thank you for standing with the Abbott family in love and compassion.
