Shaving my beloved beard and luscious locks off for an amazing local charity. The Clippers come out on the 30th September 2016.
NANNA is a voluntary run Charity with no paid staff; set up in 2004 and they have helped over 7000 animals. They have a large team of volunteers who all have two things in common, the welfare of the animals in their care and to make sure they either find new forever homes or they stay with them until they do.
For More information about NANNA or if you are looking to Adopt a Pet please visit the NANNA Animal Rescue Facebook Page
Below is a small example of the struggles NANNAS goes though on a weekly basis:
"Due to the tremendous success of our rehoming over the past few months, we have found ourselves running at a huge loss, due to the care and commitment we give to all our animals at NANNA.All animals that can be or should be, are neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated on a regular basis, they have veterinary treatment as and when needed, even if it is in the middle of the night or weekend, if they need it they get it. Then there is food, bedding and also a skip that needs to be emptied monthly at a cost of £400-£500.Please note there are no wages or staff gratuities, they are there for the love of the animals and that is all the reward they need. No charity money has been spent on cosmetics of the site as in flowers or paint, as a very kind person purchased them and gave them to us.We do off site walks twice a week and take the dogs to the sea side twice a year at no cost to the Charity, the dog walkers pay a donation to pay for these trips.
We have had a lot of new cat pens, pig sty, roadway, drainage and much more, but this has been funded by a Charitable Trust who do not help with the day to day running of the Charity, but the “capital” expenditure, like pens, roads etc. Sadly people have seen all the new buildings, roadway and drainage going in and they believe that we must be extremely well off, so not true, also the amazing amount of rehoming we have done and how much money that must have raised for us, but it is so sad that the more we do the deeper in debt we are going. The GREAT NEWS this weekend we have reserved FIVE yes five dogs and EIGHT, yes eight cats, the expected income (donations) from rehoming is £1460… WOW The expenditure on the animals going out have been £2355 Income from fundraising and donations £63 As you can see we have a total LOSS this weekend £832!We are so busy at weekends with the public and rehoming and of course caring for the animals, that we are struggling to do any fund raising to make up the difference. We have had no legacies, we have very little monthly giving, but so grateful to those who do give ….. Thank you x………… We get very little cat food or litter (we have 150 cats in our care), we get very little to practically no farm food, rodent or rabbit food…. But we do get HUGE amounts of dog food, we actually have 4-6 month worth of food at any one time!
Our farm is a sanctuary so brings in no income/donationOur equine is a sanctuary so brings in no income/donation Wildlife is rehabilitated but again bring in very little income/donations, an odd £5 or £10.An example of what we face:11 cats come in from one household………………. A donation of £3.74 (they emptied their purse), ALL cats needed dentals, microchipping, vaccinations, treatment for gum disease, five also needed neutering, one cat pregnant, five kittens were born whilst with us all needing, neutering, vaccinations, microchipping and of course don’t forget flea and worm treatment for 16 cats now! All cats and kittens were rehomed, some taking two years to find their families, all are happy, healthy, loved and cared for…………. But NANNA cannot survive on the joy of finding purr-fect homes! We need you helpIf every new owner did a monthly donation of just £1 for each pet they got from us, we would not be in the dire straits we find ourselves in……………….. NANNA has assisted – rehabilitated – released or rehomed THOUSANDS of animals, just £1 for each animal per month, we would survive to be here for the rest of the animals needing our help.
If every person who gave up an animal also gave just £1 per month instead of promising to “send something in the post” we could continue to help others. We, as a charity have made moves to reduce our expenditure, sadly the most destressing one is restricting what animals we take in. We take dogs in from the pound but most need everything doing to them but they are and will always be priority to us…… but we will have to start saying no until we can get back on our feet again. We have committed to taking in animals and we will still keep our promise in offering them space and hope. For us to keep going, we need your help, we need it now, tomorrow, next week, next month right the way through to next years and the year after. Without your help, we are finished………….. it is that simple!
