Fundraiser for TO MOCK A KILLINGBIRD
Donation protected
BIG NEWS from the ONE KIND FILMS front! This is a campaign to raise funds for my follow-up film to WHAT AWAITS US: A Beyond Story. It’s currently being shot on black and white Super 8 film. Its title: TO MOCK A KILLINGBIRD.
WHY FILM? You might be asking yourself, especially with all this digital technology at our disposal. I could bore you with a rant about twenty-four frames per second and stuff like that, but ultimately, it comes down to this: I want the film to look and feel as raw and unsterilized as my punk and hardcore tapes and records, like the cinematic equivalent to the Cro-Mags demo or Black Dots by Bad Brains.
THE FUNDS: One lesson I learned when shooting WHAT AWAITS US is how important LIGHTS are to making movies. A small chunk of the funds will help pay for better lights, so I can light everything the right way, like I’m Orson Welles or something. The film will have a dark look for sure, but c’mon, you need lights.
Most of the funds though will help pay for the black and white SUPER 8 FILM itself. You might also be asking, “Wait. Didn’t my grandfather shoot on Super 8?” Yeah, he did. He was cool and so is this film. It’s gonna look raw, like the city streets after a monster show at CB’s. Also, with LIGHTS, SUPER 8 FILM can look pretty damn good.
HOW MUCH? It’s a far bolder adventure than WHAT AWAITS US: A Beyond Story. A work of fiction requires rehearsals, camera setups, actors, locations and millions of other miscellaneous expenses that every film set requires. We’ll need roughly around $9, 500 to finish the film, if we’re gonna do it the right way.
THE STORY is seven separate stories woven together, all based around a character called THE SINGER, the songs he writes, his journeys on the road and his relationships with family, partners and strangers.
The seven stories are:
FATHEAD
HAULIN’ BRICKS
COLLEGE TOWN
THE NEIGHBORS OF THE LIVING DEAD
SHE MIGHT’VE BEEN DANCING WITH HIM
A QUIET TOWN
and JENNIFER
Thanks in advance for your contribution. All contributors will be listed as a PRODUCER for the film.
Thanks to my buds in THE WELL for letting me use their song “Trespass” for the trailer.
